Arlo Guthrie - Guabi Guabi
Keeping up with the spirits of last Friday, we have chosen to feature “Guabi Guabi” as our song of the week!
Written by George Sibanda, popular Sub-Saharan artist, circa 1950, “Guabi Guabi” is a fun and upbeat song. Loosely translated, the song is about a young man who wants to bring sweets, buns, and bananas to his sweetheart. In the 1960s, this song became popular throughout the states as numerous folk artists covered this hit. Arlo, who learned it from his friend Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, released his version of “Guabi Guabi” on the album “Amigo” in 1976, which was produced by John Pilla.
